Takaya Saito obtained his PhD at NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) and later worked as lecturer/post-doc research fellow at the University of Bergen (UiB) before joining IMR in 2018. Through various life science research projects, he has gained strong bioinformatics knowledge and skills including model building with machine learning and statistical data analysis. In addition to his research skills, he has significant practical commercial experience in large-scale systems-development as analyst programmer and IT consultant.

His research interests focus on understanding the genetic and epigenetic regulations on a genome-wide scale in general and the regulations of non-coding RNAs and DNA methylation in specific. This involves the design and development of algorithms and statistical approaches as well as analyses of high-throughput sequencing data.
