I am a PhD candidate working on applying new technologies to increase efficacy and reduce impact of fisheries stock assessment. Focussing on king crab, snow crab and Icelandic scallop stocks I am optimising the use of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and other imaging platforms to collect data complementary to existing frameworks. Coupling this non-invasive data collection technique with AI allows for calculation of species distributions, abundances and length compositions which can be integrated into existing timeseries and thus expand spatial-temporal coverage of fisheries-independent data.
