IMR monitoring and research shall provide the necessary knowledgebase for research-based advice to ensure sustainable production and that farming is conducted within acceptable limits.

The research profile shall specify both long-term and short-term strategies. All advice must be based on thorough, relevant research that is conducted in an impartial manner. The aim is to combine results from experimental work, field data and modelling to provide advice on frameworks and opportunities for Norwegian aquaculture activity.
