Climate scientists from all over the world will gather when the UN Ocean Conference on Climate Effects takes place from 17 to 21 April 2023 in Bergen.

The symposium “Effects of Climate Change on the World's Ocean” is the fifth in the series, and is organized by ICESPICESIOC-UNESCO and FAO with the Institute of Marine Research as the local host.

The changing ocean

The symposium brings together 600 experts from almost 70 countries to increase knowledge about how climate change affects and changes the marine ecosystem, what is at stake and what measures are needed in the future.

Through 19 different sessions over five days, the experts will present and discuss climate research covering all the world's oceans. The symposium is also aimed at future climate scientists, and it is expected that around 100 young master's and doctoral research fellows from all over the world will participate.

Part of "One Ocean Week"

At the same time, One Ocean Week, or “havuken”, is being held in Bergen for the first time in connection with the return of "Statsraad Lehmkuhl" from its great circumnavigation of the globe. The climate conference will be one of the central events of One Ocean Week.

It will also be possible to follow the climate conference digitally. (Link to come).
