Topic: Parasites in Fish and Seafood

Parasites are very common in practically all fish from the sea – they can even be a sign of a healthy ecosystem.

The Institute of Marine Research monitors the occurrence of certain types of parasites in wild and farmed fish, either routinely or as individual studies.

Some parasites, such as nematodes, are easily visible when they occur in larger quantities in or on the fish.

Others are microscopic, and you will only be able to see the effect they have on the quality of the fillet.

Some parasites are zoonotic, which means they can be transmitted to humans and potentially cause disease.
