Havforskningsinstituttets hovedkontor ligger Bergen. Vi har også en avdeling i Tromsø og forskningsstasjoner i Matre, Austevoll og Flødevigen. I tillegg har HI et eget rederi som har ansvar for forskningsfartøyene. Disse skipene er våre viktigste redskaper for innsamling av marine data. Instituttet har også flere laboratorier som analyserer prøvene fra overvåknings- og forskningsprogrammene.
