Chair of the board of Univ. of Gothenburg’s Marine Infrastructure (2016 -2022). Norw. delegate to SCAR (2017-2023). Chair of the board of UNIS CO2 Lab A/S (2012 – 2016). Member of the board of NERSC (2017 – 2024). Member of the board of the Meteorological Inst. 2011 - 2018, member of several program committees of the Norw. Research Council 2005 – 2013. Chair of the ICES Fishing Tech. Committee 1999 – 2001. Member of Academia Europea, and Norw. Scientific Academy for Polar Research. 

Scientist at IMR from 1990 - 2000, and worked with ORSTOM (now IRD), France, in 1992. Published about 65 scientific articles, co-authored several books and book chapters.
