Academic employment
2009- now. Head of Research Group Bottom Habitats and Shellfish, Institute of Marine Research, Norway: The section consists of 45 scientists, technicians, PhDs and students, located at IMR departments in Tromsø, Bergen, Austevoll and Flødevigen. The group has an extensive network and collaborates with universities and research institutions nationally and internationally. We do:
• benthic biotopes in coastal and offshore areas
• habitats and their significance for ecology and biological diversity
• living organisms on the sea-bed and the harvesting of shrimp, king crab, lobster and other crustaceans
• sea-ranching of shellfish and crustaceans, scallops and queen scallops
• studies the health of benthic communities
• monitoring, condition assessments, stock size estimates, population analyses, modelling, prognoses, harvesting and conservation strategies, taxonomy.
2005-now. Senior scientist at The Institute of Marine Research, Norway: Shrimp stock assessment and fisheries advice nationally and within ICES and NAFO. Construction of assessment models for shrimp stocks. Quantitative modelling of the King Crab stock expansion and production potential in the Barents Sea. Representing Norway in international stock assessment and advisory fora.
1995-2005. Research scientist at The Greenland Institute of Natural Resources: In charge of for the assessment of the West and East Greenland shrimp stocks and for providing advice on their management to the Greenland and Canadian governments; participation and quality assurance of stock assessments and advice on other species (Snow crab, cod, Greenland halibut, cam shell, lumbsucker etc.); State representative at various international meetings and in working groups, in particular within ICES and NAFO. Member of various national working groups and sub-committees with relevance to fisheries management.
1993-1994. Research scientist at The Danish Institute for Fisheries Research: Evaluation of artificial marine fish stock enhancement – advice to Danish government and fisheries organisations; status of marine coastal ecology in potential fish release areas.
Consultancy work
2005-now. Part-time consultant: Courses in fisheries biology modelling using Bayesian methods; construction of assessment frameworks for Greenland Halibut and shrimp; review of stock assessments; Fisheries management advisor.
